What a Wonderful Month

Oh June, how you treat me and drain my sleep!

Oh the hidden goodness you contain!

There is a reason why I haven’t had a full night’s sleep since the start of winter. Between scouring for news coming out of the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles and watching Euro 2012 in the early hours of the morning, rest has plummeted ever  lower on my list of priorities. Even though E3 is done and dusted for another year, there still remain plenty of reasons why June 2012 will keep bringing the goods. Here are just five of them:

Prometheus
The hotly anticipated prequel to the Alien franchise was just released here in Australia last Thursday and I’ll be seeing it on the 12th. There is all kinds of hype surrounding this film event and when you take director Sir Ridley Scott, add a cast that includes Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron and add a super-polished look to a beloved si-fi setting, what can go wrong? Find out on Vagrant Rant soon.

Gravity Rush
Prior visitors to Vagrant Rant might be familiar with how much I want this PS Vita game. It was part of the reason I bought a Vita and hopefully it’s unique mechanics can sustain a fun experience the whole way through. Otherwise I will be sad. The game launches on June 14th.

Brave
A new Pixar film is coming on June 21st! A new Pixar film! A. New. Pixar. Film! The haters and the doubters will say that their streak of amazing major works will end with this medieval Scottish adventure, but I mean, come on. It looks incredible in the trailers. It kinda demands to be seen.

Snow White and the Huntsman
Releasing on the same day as Brave will create an interesting double-medieval focus at the movies, but Snow White and the Huntsman couldn’t be further from Brave in style. One glance at any of the trailers will reveal an intriguing mix of stylised blacks and high-adrenaline slashing. I have seen it called “a fairytale for the Skyrim generation.” We shall see.

Pokemon Conquest
This DS game came right out of left field this year. A crazy, very unlikely mix of classic Pokemon appeal and Final Fantasy Tactics-style isometric strategy gameplay, with a feudal Japanese visual style thrown in, make Conquest a portable title I will be watching with great interest. It, too, comes out on the 21st. A busy day to be sure.

Taken on June 2nd. Apparently I’m a pretty one-dimensional person.
