Unless the end of the world comes on time according to the Mayan calendar, it is going to be an incredible year for entertainment media. There is just so much to look forward to. I won’t bore you with the album releases I am most looking forward to this year, but here are my top ten most anticipated movies and games of (the rest of) 2012!
MOVIES
10. Looper (Info)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis play the same character, but one is trying to kill the other. Sound intriguing? I certainly think so.
9. Snow White and the Huntsman (Trailer)
An epic reimagining of the classic fairytale with more violence and more Chris Hemsworth/Charlize Theron. Looks awesome.
8. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Trailer)
I’m not the world’s biggest Lord of the Rings fan but I actually read The Hobbit, so I’m keen to see how it turns out as a film.
7. The Amazing Spider-Man (Trailer)
Hopefully director Marc Webb can deliver a version of Spider-Man that has its own unique identity. The trailers suggest he will.
6. John Carter (Trailer)
The 100 year-old inspiration for the likes of Star Wars and Avatar finally looks like getting a worthy movie adaptation.
5. Argo (Info)
Ben Affleck’s first two films as a director (Gone Baby Gone and The Town) were nothing short of brilliant, so I have high hopes for his third.
4. The Avengers (Trailer)
Four characters from four awesome superhero movies wrapped together in a suitably lighthearted tone. I am sold.
3. Brave (Trailer)
Come on. It’s Pixar.
2. The Hunger Games (Trailer)
The first novel saga I’ve read all the way through since Deltora Quest gets its first movie adaptation and words cannot express how excited I am. One month to go!
1. The Dark Knight Rises (Trailer)
Christopher freaking Nolan, ladies and gentlemen. CHRISTOPHER. NOLAN. Oh, and Batman.

10. Final Fantasy Type Zero (PSP)
Well, if it gets released in the West at all. Please please please let it be released in the West.
9. Mario Tennis Open (3DS)
Hopefully represents a return to the glory of the N64 Mario Tennis, which was the bomb back in the day.
8. Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS)
Hectic, eye-destroying mystical firefights and Smash Bros-inspired multiplayer! Releases next month.
7. The Last of Us (PS3)
Cinematic survival horror from the makers of Uncharted? Yes please.
6. Gravity Rush (PSV)
Whenever this crazy title eventually releases, it should be an absolute blast to play if it is anything like the demo.
5. Bioshock Infinite (PS3/360/PC)
It’s Bioshock, but in the sky! Political intrigue and insane storytelling merged with insane FPS gameplay. What’s not to love?
4. South Park (PS3/360/PC)
Every screenshot of this parody RPG looks just like it could happen on the actual show. The entire script is written by the SP creators themselves. Can’t wait.
3. Tomb Raider (PS3/360/PC)
There are gritty reboots, and then there’s this. Scavenging gameplay, incredible visuals and a more realistic approach to the Lara Croft character add up to a very exciting prospect.
2. Paper Mario (3DS)
Finally, a proper RPG sequel to one of my favourite games of all time (Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door)! Plus, its portable!
1. Borderlands 2 (PS3/360/PC)
87 bajillion guns, an addictive loot system, new classes, better everything. Loved the first game to death; BRING THIS RIGHT ON.
